Plato, Lato

This is the post I had on D2l, With pictures JOY!

Sontag starts out with some big statements in the reason a person, an American or Japanese especially, takes a picture. She makes crazy remarks of how the tourist needs to put the camera between them and the remarkable object. I can't see how someone could believe that a person just takes a picture to not feel weird or out of place, of course theirs no love or passion in the action. Sontag insists that taking a photo is our work away from work. When I read this, i already had a dislike for whatever that could come later in the article.
Even though I was unhappy already, I did come to understand what she meant about the camera becoming advertised like a car, and compared to a gun. Lester wrote about the invasion of privacy a person could feel from us walking about with a camera/gun. Most take the situational candid photo moment with light reactions. They see it happen and are stunned for a moment or not fazed at all. Some people though, celebrity or not, with a rough day or some liquor might not be so hesitant to cause a bigger situation. I can totally see the camera a mental weapon.

For the Photo essay project, I am aiming to show images of a few desktops over a couple of weeks to show change in daily interests or habits. I personally have a ever changing desktop and can see that it reflects my day or week, cleaning it off is like starting a new slate. Part ways through the project I noticed how the changes of the desk varied with the time it's owner had access to it. I wake up every morning in my room whereas the other desk owners don't. In these five pictures there are objects that remain and others that come and go, the last image is of a clean desk. These are a excerpt from the month of november.

The duck tape is big and there are large papers underneath it. A the first change on this messy desk is a hat, windy eh? A cell phone box, some doritos, things that are part of my day. I even see my rental cell there too, joy.

A caption for a set of pictures could be the taken from the adventure of that week or two. For these 5 pictures it can be, " A harsh week with soothing finish" or a story, "I broke my phone from rocking out and I can't program a television remote. The cold is not welcoming when your lost downtown, I had a good Thursday night with McD's and reflection and cleaned my act up on friday."

To know or to not know

The portrait project was a fun one for sure. I really enjoyed trying to get people to get a picture taken where I set up the shot, both parties of known and unknown were hesitant. I found that when just taking a picture in a set position the person is willing, but when asked, "can you come outside with me" the known parties had lost interest in being apart of the project and the unknown people started to power walk away. Taking pictures of the people I knew was much more comfortable also, both for me and the subject. The body language a person portrayed reflected if that person knew the photographer. Other things like, what the person was wearing, did they have a backpack or purse in the shot, and location really made the difference in deciding known or unknown. Overall, I did try to fool the audience using the above information and some of the shots worked and some didn't.

Document

My document project will be about some of the skateboards we would see around the campus. I want to make a collage on of some of those boards, and this is a example of the types of decks that will be used in the collage, i will use both long boards and regular decks.

Here are some photos that have a briliant light. It just shows how the eye of the camera sees its objects.

First Pickture

I chose this image apart from all the other images I uploaded onto flickr because of how it was all about the moment. Not only did the picture, by accident (not preplanned), follow a crude rule of thirds but it shows how nikki-girl in the photo-has this wanting look on her face. Overall, its just a nice photo.
